Here is a picture of me right after I got my head shaved. I have wanted to do this for some time....and it is very hot here so why not.

You look very handsome; your shaved head will, no doubt, be much cooler for you :)

Sunday. It was grand to hear from you this afternoon . . . it helps to give us a better idea of what the women and men "over there" are experiencing. Keep safe and don't forget the sunscreen :)

Mum

Monday. I'm taking a well-deserved break from painting the front porch. I've had to wait two weeks to apply the top coat because the weather forecast was rain practically every day. Now that the weather is glorious and the forecast is dry, dry, dry, there's no valid excuse for me not to get on with it! I know it will look good when it's finished (I'm using latex paint) and the effort will be worth it. That's the mantra I plan on chanting throughout the process. Listening to jazz on the earphones helps too!

Hope your day is going well. Keep safe.

Love,

Mum

I saw this photo and screamed! To think I have had the same hair cut at one time! I bet you feel cooler in that heat.

I have now officially left work and everyday feels like a weekend day. Its strange for me not having any stucture and its only Tuesday. I have taken it on board to decorate more or less the whole house, only all the jobs are half done and poor Scott comes home and has to finish them off. Today I started the hallway and landing! The baby should arrive in 5 weeks and I am planning a home birth. The pregnancy has been very good and I am doing lots of exercise and drinking lots of water.

Its great reading your experiences. I will keep you posted with news this end. Love S

Tuesday. You'll be thrilled and delighted to learn that the painting on the side porch is now finished. It looks more like a sheet of glass than wood :) I've given myself mega bonus points for painting in 85 degrees! It was such an effort on my part--forget my age!--I'm sorely tempted to call in help with painting the front part of the porch. However, when the idea of "help" was suggested to household members, strangely enough they quickly reminded me of personal urgent matters they needed to attend to! The only person who volunteered to help was Thomas who declared "I'm good at painting"! C'est la vie!

Keep safe.

Mum

I lost track of you and where do I find you? Kurdistan! I read your posts, no wonder you shaved your head. It's pretty hot here in Richmond today. (92 w/ a heat index of 105, humid). Yes I know it doesn't compare. I'm trying to feel your pain. Congrats on the Tarheels winning the basketball NC. My Hokies won two NCs in track & field this year. Hey, you got to take what you can get.

Best wishes from from the Innsbrook Ward

Wednesday. With the temps. forecast to be in the low 90's today, the painting on the front porch will definitely be postponed. The forecast for tomorrow is somewhere in the 80's so I reckon I can resume painting then. The "I" might well be joined by another person, mostly because the idea of being on my knees for over six hours is rapidly going sour! The beach with its lure of fresh breezes is definitely more appealing :)

Keep safe.

Mum

Thursday. Re: painting. I admit defeat in the face of adversity; it's just too darn hot for me to paint . . . someone else is taking over painting the front porch. Hurrah! I'm off to play, but before I do . . .

Glad to report that the leading toy store in town has agreed to donate (approximately) 25 soft/plush toys for the young children "over there." Hubby and I will collect them this Saturday and mail them on to you for distribution. Please confirm that the address listed at the top of your blogger site is correct.

Keep safe.

Love,

Mum

Friday. Re: the porch floor. It's now finished and looks terrific, thanks to the help of a "recruit."

We're greatly looking forward to the middle child's five/six day visit beginning this Sunday. Thomas is beside himself with glee at the idea of challenging her to a game of checkers. Ha, I guess he doesn't understand the middle child's competitiveness (yet)!

Keep safe.

Mum

A.C. Hi! HOw are you doing? Also, how are you supposed to reply? Cuz, you never really directionaly reply... at "mums" still, had first day at soccer camp, had dinner at a resturaunt. Lots of cows. (that was the theme I'm guessing) "mum's" new car is pretty good-looking. "mums" husband's back is hurting:( hope it gets better, I am getting kind of worried about him and his old age and his old back, and his old self. Poor thang. "mum" is very nagging me to skidaddle up to bed. "mum" has given me a showercap. Yesterday i did a back handspring on "mum's" bed. She was sweating profusely. oh well, "mum" is VERY nagging me now, hold on, I have to tell you that i have started on knitting again, and have made no mistakes so far... i want to keep it like that all the way till the end, I'm going to unravel I think the green scarf thing I made because I has loads of mistakes in it. VERY EXTREME NAGGING,LUV MIDDLECHILD

Monday: Boy, I sound like a real bossy "Mum" with the middle child! (I can assure you it's only with bedtime!) You might know she's enjoying being pampered with choices of white or brown bread, jam with pieces in or without, ditto for yogurt. Additionally, she's given choices of checkers, video, shopping, coloring, etc.

The soccer camp was a good choice, because it gives us time after her daily sessions to spend "quality" time together :) Spelling questions seem to be popular this week--think brows furrowed in concentration--along with a passion to complete a knitting assignment without any mistakes. I'm thinking a career steeped in complex challenges for the detailed-oriented middle child? She's bound to succeed!

Keep safe.

Love,

Mum

Hmm, Norman did this same thing when he was in Viet Nam. Since he was nearly bald anyway for Desert Storm, it was all the same. I drop these two hints, Alex, so you will know that the Fertigs are in this with you. We pray for you, we care about the job you and the others are doing, and we love and support our troops and their families--but especially your family! Love GA

Hey CPT C

This is the webmaster who helped you setup your blog. Greetings from your friends.

As you may or may not know, I have been called in to the ministry as 2nd counselor. It is a great experience; but I would love to trade you places for a spell to enjoy the experiences you have serving those wonderful people. Your pictures are a treasure. Thank you for sharing them. It gives us another view than we can get from the news media.

Your family is under our care. We pray for you always. Please keep yourself well and safe. May I share this passage from the scriptures,

"God loved us that he sent his only begotton Son ..." as a sacrifice for our own eternal progression. His love for us is expressed in you by giving up yourself in the service of these people in Iraq. May the spirit of service continue in you in your efforts to bring peace and progress in that area of the world. Take care, and God Bless.

Great to check out the blog again. I've enjoyed your children this summer. Middle child was upside down more than not. First child was quite good at weeding and cleaning the fridge. Baby looked at Papa on Saturday and said, "Are you Papa?" So cute! They enjoyed the pool, beach, and kayaking as well. I start back to school on Wednesday. The vacation is coming to an end! Stay safe. PLEASE tell me what you want for your birthday. Do NOT tell me Bose headphones! Something cheap, please. Love you.
